ACTION TEAM / BELIEFS I Integrated Professional Development We believe that staff development that is aligned to building goals and shared with the building through action teams and that impacts of the greatest number of students and staff while supporting district goals. N Nurturing A Safe and Positive Learning Environment We believe that if staff members monitor halls and move kids toward their destination, then negative hall behavior will decrease. F Fostering an Effective School Climate We believe that creating a supporting climate is conducive to continuous improvement in academic achievement. L Linking Literacy across the Curriculum We believe that if every faculty member would incorporate one of the provided readings, writing, and math strategies, students' comprehension would increase thereby increasing student achievement. U Unifying a Collaborative Community Partnership We believe that parental involvement will have a positive effect on academic achievement. E Establishing High-Performing Teams We believe that effective communication between teachers, students, parents and administration is essential for the success of a professional learning community. N Networking so No Child is Left Behind We believe that each staff member will contribute to the improvement of communication through establishing and maintaining information on a team web page. C Closing the Achievement Gap We believe that celebrating different cultures through a variety of diversity awareness activities will improve the Buerkle Community climate. E Enhancing Leadership in a Professional Learning Community We believe that if each staff member works toward advancing all students along the continuum of learning, we will improve the learning for all. GOAL 1: Focusing on Improved Academic Achievement for ALL Students OBJECTIVES: •To have 100% of Buerkle Middle School students meet proficiency in the areas of math and communication arts, as measured by MAP. •To have 100% of Buerkle Middle School effectively communicate throughout the school community, as measured by a communication self-assessment tool. •To have 100% of Buerkle Middle School create a positive school environment that encourages students and teachers to focus on teaching and learning, as measured by a school environment survey. •To have 100% of Buerkle Middle School staff actively improving the professional learning community, as measured by the Continuous Improvement Continuums, questionnaires, and other evaluations. “Advancing Along the Continuum Towards Independent Learning”
